2020 Vision! 40 day Journey of Prayer

In just a handful of hours we will be saying goodbye to the year 2019 and hello to 2020!

And as the year 2020 begins, a group of people from all around the world are committing to start the new year with a focus on prayer, and for many, fasting as well.

The specific prayer focus will be asking God to open the hearts and minds of people around the world to come to deep life-giving Faith in Jesus, and to commit to a lifetime of being disciples who make disciples. In short, we are praying for a global disciple making movement to be what marks the year 2020! We are asking God to do the work only He can do, and we are asking Him to show us how He wants us to work with Him in it. I think it’s fitting that we are beginning the year 2020 because in this 40 days of prayer we are asking God to give us a clear vision of what He is up to.

We’re asking for 2020 Vision!

This is an invitation to join me on this journey of prayer, fasting and disciple making!

If you would like to commit January 1, 2020 thru February 9th, 2020 to this prayer vision, subscribe at the bottom of this page to receive or daily blog updates or simply return to this site each day for the newest prayer starter.

A worldwide disciple making coalition called 24:14 has created a document with prayer points highlighting a different country/people group each day with a specific prayer. Refer to the link below to download this document.

In addition to this, I will also create a more general prayer starter for each day which will allow you to pray more specifically for those in your life context, using the same Scriptures from the document mentioned above.

I’ll close with this encouragement.

Shortly after WWII had concluded my grandfather felt God calling him to Japan to bring the message of the Gospel to the people there. As a young man with only 2 years of ministry experience under his belt, he was commissioned to travel to Japan, purchase land to build a mission compound and begin a disciple making work among the people there. He was to begin this alone since the Japanese government wouldn’t let his family or additional missionaries join him until the mission compound was built. And, by the way, he didn’t speak any Japanese.

As the ship set sail from Seattle, he was overwhelmed and a bit fearful thinking of the task ahead of him. He cried out asking God to speak to his heart, to give him wisdom. God gave Him Isaiah 45:2-3…

“I will go before you

and level the uneven places;

I will shatter the bronze doors

and cut the iron bars in two.

I will give you the treasures of darkness

and riches from secret places,

so that you may know that I, Yahweh,

the God of Israel call you by your name.”

Over the next few years, Morris Werdal and the missionaries who followed him to Japan, saw God begin a movement of the Gospel. Hundreds of Japanese people began following God in those early years, a direct answer to God’s promise from Isaiah 45 to this young, inexperienced missionary! God was beginning a mighty work!

Each of us have people in our lives who don’t know Jesus and we all live among people who have never experienced the hope only found in a life with Him!

What might God want to do among your friends, family, co-workers and Neighbors this year? How might He want to use you in their lives?

Here is our invitation to pray from God Himself:

Isaiah 62:6-7

“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls;

they will pray day and night, continually.

Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.

Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work,

until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.”

And remember who we are praying to:

Jeremiah 32:17 & 27

“Oh, Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and earth by Your great power and with Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!” - “Look, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?”
