Day 9
GOD’S PREVAILING PURPOSE!
This is now our 9th time to pray strategically for a movement of the gospel, gaining many new disciples who will be equipped to make disciples. I hope you are beginning to hear from God as you spend time with Him each day, ideas of what He is up to within the context of your life and relationships. Today’s specific prayer is an encouragement to fine tune your listening ears so that you don’t step ahead of God or step in a direction God is not leading you to go. Hearing God’s voice is a practiced skill that combines knowing the truth of His word with listening prayer.
Often times we only think of one side of prayer…talking to God. But prayer is also listening to God, waiting quietly in His presence for Him to speak to our hearts.
Before you spend your time praying today, think back through any impressions God may have been bringing to your mind as you’ve read each daily Bible passage and prayed. Now ask yourself, “Are the things I think I’ve heard from God this week consistent with the teachings found in Scripture?” This is important because God will never contradict His written Word. If they are, test them out as you go through your daily routines today.
If we commit each aspect of our day to the Lord before we step into it, He will lead us into His will for that portion of our day. By way of example: Today I will be spending time with a young man who I am discipling. Before I step into the coffee shop I could pray, “Father, I commit the next 2 hours to You. Would you guide my words as I speak so they will be Your words and thoughts and not my own. I want Jim to hear from you so that He knows You more deeply and so he trusts you more completely as he lives each day. Would You be glorified by our time together?”
After you’ve quieted your heart before God today and spent time listening, pause and commit each activity of your day to Him.
Proverbs 16:3
"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Proverbs 16:9
“A man’s heart plans his way,
but the Lord determines his steps.”
Proverbs 19:21
"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."
